Community Organizing
Why We Organize
To change the system that deports our community and inflicts ongoing suffering, we must organize.
Organizing builds the power we need for someone to live here freely, without the need for legal intervention. Organizing also ensures that once our community is here, they can live a life where they have a safe space to be seen, heard, and thrive.
Winning individual cases is crucial for our community. At the same time, individual victories will not change the system that forces our community to need legal support. SCIJ’s Legal Advocacy work provides us with a way to meet a need of our community and also to bring people into the SCIJ network. Organizing then provides us with a mechanism to create long-term change.
How We Organize
SCIJ’s strategy for community organizing is focused on supporting our constituency to turn its resources into the power to achieve its goals through base building, political education, and leadership development.
In practice, looks like community members and students coming together for regular meetings to develop and execute campaigns aimed at systemic change.
Get Engaged
Each month, in Worcester, Boston, and Providence, SCIJ holds community meetings that bring together community members and students to engage in facilitating political education and leadership development workshops, designing and carrying out actions, and crafting campaign strategies.
SCIJ is particularly focused on bringing together local immigrant community members and students impacted by the immigration system. Get involved by RSVPing below!
